What is TNBC

WHAT IS TRIPLE NEGATIVE BREAST CANCER?

Just in recent years, Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) has sparked interest in the news where instead of calling the tumor as ER-negative, PR-negative, and HER2-negative; researchers began using the shorthand term, "Triple Negative," dubbed the "new type" of breast cancer. Being Triple Negative, you don't have a targeted therapy and your only treatment option is chemotherapy.

Triple Negative Breast Cancer is seen in about 15% of all breast cancers. TNBC is a very aggressive cancer that tends to strike younger women, pre-menopause, especially among African-American women and women who have BRCA1 mutations. The tumor tends to be fast growing and is less likely to show up on an annual mammogram. TNBC is more likely to metastasis early on; has a high rate of recurrence in the first 2-3 years from diagnosis and has a poorer prognosis than other types of breast cancer due to lack of specific, targeted treatment for TNBC.

Toledo's Hattitude Breast Cancer Awareness Brunch 2018

On October 14, 2018, I attended Hattitude, a Breast Cancer Awareness brunch sponsored by Medical Mutual of Ohio. Every year, Medical Mutual of Ohio honors a person or an organization who has made progress in bringing breast cancer awareness in our local community with the Debra A. Green Award. The recipient of the 2018 Debra A. Community Service Award was presented to the University of Toledo Center for Health and Successful Living, a well deserved wellness center that I have been a participant of for the pass few years. I was honored to be asked by Barbara Oxner to be a guest in attendance in supporting Dr. Amy Thompson, Co-Director of the Center for Health and Successful Living.  Congrats to the team of the center for your hard work in making the center a successful support outlet for us breast cancer survivors!

Northwest Ohio Medical Mutual's Hattitude Breast Cancer Awareness Brunch 2017

Lovely and uplifting breast cancer awareness brunch presented by Medical Mutual of Ohio at the Inverness Club in Toledo on Sept. 16, 2017.  Also, it was a great opportunity for me to get Young Survival Coalition's information out there for support of young women diagnosed with breast cancer.  Thank you Debra. A. Green for this annual awareness event in bringing women together and reminding us on the importance of early detection in breast cancer.

Educating about unique needs in young
women diagnosed with breast cancer.

Very exciting news... Next month October 10, 2015 at a breast cancer awareness brunch in my area, I will be honored with the Debra A. Komen of Northwest Ohio to receive this award.  Thank you to all that were involved in the voting process and selected me to be the honorary for my involvement in the breast cancer community.  I am so grateful and thrilled to receive this honor... I have a lot of important things to say! - Melissa

Congrats to the Victory Center Honored with the 2014 Debra A. Green Community Service Award...

http://thevictorycenter.org
The Victory Center's gals get-together at Toledo's Hattitude breast cancer awareness brunch hosted by Medical Mutual of Ohio on October 18th 2014. Us breast cancer survivor sisters showed our support for The Victory Center as they were recognized and honored with the Debra A. Green Community Service Award for its ongoing dedication and commitment to those touched by cancer.  This award is so very deserving to The Victory Center (TVC) as I have been a member of their breast cancer support group since 2010. I have met so many courageous survivors through TVC and the staff there, they are amazing with their compassion and commitment towards cancer patients and caregivers. Congrats to The Victory Center for this great honor!
